CaringConnections: Social Platforms

Facebook: recommended

  • Pew research: 75% of my target age group uses it (30-49), and 74-68% of my target income group uses it ($70,000-100,000).
    • Important, as these people are the most likely to have senior parents, and also to have the spendable money to afford our service
  • We also use Facebook already for our Companions, as a method of group communication
    • This will allow them to easily engage/spread the content

MS, in the middle of a cafe:

Two people sitting in a coffee shop. One is middle-aged, scrolling through a phone with a frustrated expression, and another is a bored-looking elderly woman.

A waitress sets down two coffees and breaks into the discussion.

Man looks up at her, confused.

Transition: cut
SFX: Cafe chatter

M: I just don’t know, mom. There’s got to be something we can do together around here.

W: Why don’t you try the local senior center? I know they do bowling nights, sometimes.
M: The senior center? Would that even be any fun–?
MS from a bowling alley:

Man is now standing in the middle of a group of chattering, happy elderly women, holding a bowling ball in one hand and a plate of nachos in the other. He looks around.

The elderly woman from before chases a bowling ball across the ground behind him, laughing. Man shrugs, smiling.
SFX: Bowling alley ambiance

M: Uh.

M: Huh. Yeah. This works.

Instagram: recommended

  • Pew research: Aside from YouTube, which is not in this assignment, it is the next-highest used platform for our age group (59%) and for our income group (49-54%).
  • Many of the things posted on Facebook can be reasonably converted to Instagram, thus decreasing the bandwidth needed to support this site.
    • Also, the person that would be running this site (me) has experience in this area, so it would be less of an initial investment to start it.

Video: Same as Facebook

X: not recommended

  • Pew research: Only 27% of our age group is on X, and our income group is not truly on it (20-29%).
  • CaringConnections is a start-up, and does not have the bandwidth to have more than one or two social media accounts.

LinkedIn: not recommended

  • Pew research: 40% of our age group is on LinkedIn, and 34-53% of our income group.
  • However, again, we have very little resources. They would be better spent on other things than on a third social media account, especially one that would require as much effort as LinkedIn does to be done well.
