Press Releases

Press releases are the lifeblood of public relations, even in the age of social media. It’s one thing to win an award, or do a good deed- but it’s another for your audience to know you did it. Disseminating press releases is essential to gaining a worthwhile share of voice. Each of these three releases was made to share our achievements and worthwhile CSR efforts with our stakeholders.

Internal Communications

Along with digital signage and updates on an intranet, I assisted in building bonds between departments by creating one-page write ups on several teams (9 in total). Along with collaborating across the usual boundaries, learning more about departments that normally don’t have contact allows us to feel tighter and more connected as a company.

Media Pitching

It’s one thing to host an event. It’s another entirely to actually get the coverage for it. As much as I wish it would appear from thin air, we know that getting coverage for your company’s events requires building relationships with journalists. Even if my pitch doesn’t yield an article, it’s still a key player in creating that contact. If they search for Fusion in their inbox, looking for info for a potential article, they’ll find my name.

Event Organization

Volunteerism is a crucial aspect of a company’s CSR efforts. Beyond what is organized for the whole business, teams can reflect back on their employer positively by taking on efforts in their community. I set up a day for the communications team (including our vice president) to volunteer at Open Door Mission’s kitchen to improve our team bond and to learn how to work together in environments we weren’t as used to.

How was it done?

  • Gathered options for team to choose from
    • When their choice didn’t work out, picked something similar
  • Contacted Open Door Mission’s volunteer representative
  • Organized for team to sign up
  • Distilled important information into a half-page document for them to peruse
  • Set up time with the least amount of conflict in their schedules
  • Ensured everyone knew when/where/what
    • Kept on top of concerns day-of, rerouting for any last-minute issues
  • Had a blast!

Each of these key aspects were created under the supervision of Fusion’s senior public relations specialist, Leah Kemple. My task was to make excellent drafts and copy edit them based on her feedback, creating pieces that can be posted to the benefit of the company.
